Warranty Work Management
As any Captain and crew of a new yacht will tell you, getting the warranty work done is often a difficult task to accomplish. First of all, there are strict time limits to make a warranty claim, as well as for getting the warranty work done itself. Frequently there are disputes with the yards over what is included in the warranty and what is not.
Successful warranty work management not only depends upon street-wise negotiations at ground level; but also it depends upon the close co-ordination between the Captain and the Chief Engineer, with the supporting team at ground level.
With their knowledge and understanding of how the yards work, the financial issues and the owners viewpoint; the 7 East ground level team are there to support the Captain and the Chief Engineer in their roles with regard to the warranty work.
Refit Management
There are various types of refits done to yachts, however generally speaking they fall into two main categories; construction and refurbishment.
Construction could be anything from modifying a top deck to fit a Jacuzzi, to re-building a whole stern section to incorporate a swim platform with a garage for a tender etc. Refurbishment is where the interior is bought up to date or simply freshened up, or it could be that the navigational equipment or entertainment system is upgraded for example. As consultants, 7 East are independent which is an advantage for an owner, when negotiating for prices with yards and contractors.
No matter what type of refit is being done, 7 East have the experience, knowledge and business skills to manage the project from day one; starting with negotiations with the yard and it’s contractors. This is followed by overseeing the work being done within the timeframe and the budget allocated; and then finally checking that all the work has been done to the expected standards.
New Build Management
Building a new yacht is an exciting time for an owner, and generates many expectations for the owner and the crew. The yard that builds the yacht will often contract out some of the work to outside contractors. During the build, often there are changes made to the original specification.
Normally it is the yard that manages the project, together with a build Captain and Chief Engineer (if they have been appointed by the owner).
The problems come when, the specification that is laid down or the changes that are made to them, are not done properly or are ignored. When this happens, the situation can be very complicated. In such cases, it is better to prevent them from happening in the first place than trying to solve them after they have happened.
Working as a team with the build Captain and their crew, 7 East have the management and negotiation skills to prevent such happenings in such projects: And if they ever did, then the 7 East team will be there on the spot solving the problem as quickly as possible.
